If you own livestock or like to eat farm raised produce, such as eggs, meat or milk this concerns you
!Did you know that the USDA's plan, called the National Animal Identification System (NAIS)
would force every owner of even one chicken or other farm animal to register with the government, tag each animal and report all movments within 24 hrs. or face fines from $500- $500.000?Under the NAIS every animal must be tagged with a 15 digit USDA ID number. Currently the only approved from of indentifacation is an RFID tag or chip. All costs associated with the identification of these animals will be the responsibility of the owner.
The paperwork and costs associated with NAIS will drive the small farmers out of business and even make it impossible for most people to raise their own meat, milk or eggs. No small farmers also means that many of our rare breeds will be lost.
